Poor hot and cold water performance?
Some properties suffer from a poor water main delivery.

There can be a variety of reasons for this, such as;
- The property is located on top of a hill and the water supply is poor
- Pipework from the road may have been partially flattened due to subsidence
- There may be a number of properties sharing the same supply pipe
- The Water Supplier may have lowered the pressure to reduce leakage
My Megaflo (unvented cylinder) system runs out of water in the shower when the toilet is flushed!
The same could also happen when you run a bath and a shower.  That is because you haven't got enough water coming in from the road.

Your installer should have checked the flow rate was significantly above 25 litres per minute before recommending an unvented hot and cold water system.

We are amazed at the number of properties we see where a pressurised hot and cold water system has been promised to deliver amazing showers and fast bath fill performance, and it hasn't lived up to expectations.

If you installer didn't measure the water flow and pressure before selling you an unvented system, he should have been riding a horse.

My Combination boiler shower stops working when the washing machine fills up!
Once again, the water supply to a combination boiler makes all the difference to the system usability.  Many houses are converted to combination boilers and have all taps switched to direct mains water supplies, without the water supply performance being measured first.

The result is showers that stop working when the washine machine fills up.

Baths and Shower pressure – Hotel quality
When you visit a hotel, you expect gushing showers, and fast filling baths. If the shower stopped working properly when the chef opened the sink tap, or the shower made a noise that woke up everyone else in the building, you’d complain.

But many of us live with precisely these problems at home.

Hot Water & Central Heating can upgrade your hot and cold systems to deliver a similar performance to that you would find in a hotel, that will work silently and cost effectively.  You have to cook your own breakfast though.

The Solutions:
We have two alternative systems at our disposal to cater for almost every eventuality;

  • Mainsboost Accumulator
  • TCWS Charger & Accumulator
Using these solutions we can solve your water problem, whether it is pressure, flow, or pressure and flow related.

A brief description of the options above follows;

Mainsboost Accumulator is a solution that allows combination boilers to work up to their full potential and significantly lessens ‘modulation’ of water outlets. Therefore, if your shower slows up when the washing machine starts or someone in your building runs a cold tap, we have a solution.

Mainsboost can also transform an existing poorly performing unvented cylinder installation, we would be pleased to advise on specific applications.

Similarly, we can upgrade a ‘heatstore’ system suffering from poor water flow.

Mainsboost is a cold water booster solution, it couples to your existing method of heating hot water, such as an unvented cylinder, combination boiler or heatstore.

We have a demonstration site on the Kent/Surrey borders where we can show you the difference an accumulator makes, please ask to make an appointment.

NB: We get a lot of enquiries from self builders, we are a small company and do not have the resources to supply-only products or advise on their DIY installation.

TCWS pressure boosting:

Sometimes the pressure (not flow) of water coming into the property is not enough.  Some roads in the London area have had their water pressure reduced to around 1bar by the water supplier, in order to cheaply meet leakage targets set by the Government.

In a three storey townhouse running a combi, heatstore or unvented (Megaflo) system, this means the water outlets on upper floors are virtually unusable.

We have a solution where we combine a Mainsboost accumulator and a special Charger pumpset, that can be directly connected to the water main without using a stagnant 'break tank' so popular with plumbers and based on 70 yr old technology.

In this way we can lift the pressure in a system from 1bar to 4bar.  Examples of the TCWS system can be found on our installation blog.

This TCWS solution will deliver a solution where the mains pressure AND flow rate are poor.  If you have tried everything else this is probably what you need!

Hot Water & Central Heating are regional specialists in these patented products, if you would like to see some examples of our work, see the installation blog section.
