Worcester Bosch new model – the CDi Compact. In Lewisham, London.

The old boiler was in a bathroom, and was giving a few problems.  The Ocean Alpha sounds like a UK design, but is really an Italian unit rebranded with a modern name.  After 12 years it was ready for the skip. The job was interesting (and we try and feature the interesting ones here, there are loads of jobs that are too similar to feature on this gallery) because our customer wanted an especially shallow depth combination boiler that could be concealed in a 300mm deep wall cabinet. Enter the new Worcester Bosch CDi Compact!  This was launched in […]

A combination boiler with warm air solution in Orpington, Kent.

Although we do over 100 boiler installations each year, we only feature a very small selection on our installation gallery.  Quite simply, this is because many are very similar in scope and our web site would become very repetitive. Today we are at a 1960s property, in a village near Orpington, Kent. This case study involves a customer who desired instantaneous high flow hot water, and also had a Lennox gas warm air heater (dating from the 1960s) which needed to be replaced. We could have removed their gas water heater (long expired) and hot water storage cylinder, and fitted […]

Weather compensation on a Bosch boiler in West Norwood

Today we are in Norwood, London UK, and our customer has a lovely house, a Victorian Tardis-like property which is simply enormous when you step through the threshold. Unfortunately it had a horrid unreliable Ideal Response 120 combi boiler in the kitchen.  The previous owner unwisely sited it at a peculiar height in the corner of the kitchen, and then made maintenance difficult by building wall units in front of it.  Which made the three heat exchangers the boiler needed in the last ten years rather awkward to fit. We looked at moving the new boiler to one side, and […]

New Vaillant VRC470 weather compensation controller

This house in South East London has recently been bought by our customers.  Finding a few recommendations for our services on the ‘Virtual Norwood’ local community website (thanks, whoever you were!) our customers asked us to specify and quote for a modern combination boiler based replacement for an old ‘heat only’ Gloworm boiler and hot water cylinder.  They weren’t best pleased because the Gloworm boiler had thrown in the towel within hours of them moving in, and the weather is not kind in late January. Our clients wanted the most fuel efficient solution available, which meant equipping their boiler […]

Grade II listed 17th century building gets combi’d

Firstly, I must apologise the lack of photographs here.  I have a new iPhone and managed to lose a significant amount of installation photos transferring from the old one.  It was all my fault, not Apple’s! Our customer has a lovely period property near Gatwick, in Sussex.  It has a very cold kitchen and lounge, and was a conventional system with water tanks in the loft and a hot water cylinder on the 1st floor. The boiler was an old Potterton unit on the ground floor at the rear of the property. Now, these old properties are usually a bit […]

New Vaillant combination boiler in Redhill

Our client is based in the USA and rents a property (their UK home) where there was an old Ariston combination boiler in the cellar. We advised them to fit a new Vaillant ecoTEC+ 831 combination boiler, because it is a well built unit and reliable for a lettings customer.  All our Vaillant installations benefit from a 5 Year manufacturer parts and labour warranty.  We have fitted a few hundred of the Vaillant ecoTEC+ combi over the past five years and found it to be a reliable product. The system was fully Powerflushed, and the new boiler fitted.  A Vaillant […]

An external combi in this weather?

For this posting were are in Lingfield, a small town in Surrey.  Our customers have bought an old house which has never seen the benefit of Central Heating.  Furthermore, it is January 2011 and there is snow everywhere. To leave the maximum room in the kitchen, we’ve suggested an external oil combination boiler.  A Worcester-Bosch external heatslave was our recommendation, it comes in an insulated and rather fetching dark green cabinet, noticeably better made than the product sold by their main competitor, with rubber seals round the doors etc. We fitted all new copper pipework inside the house, together with […]

Cellar Boiler in ground floor flat refurbishment

The old Potterton Netaheat had failed and had been sited in a very rough fashion halfway down some cellar steps. The hot water cylinder was located above the cellar on a raised floor, which would have been the first landing of the stairs in the Victorian property’s original layout. Sited in Caterham, Surrey, it would be fair to say that the heating system had been bodged up by the previous owner, along with the electrical work.  Various leaking parts had seen the attention of a silicon mastic gun, including radiator valves. Our customer rather liked the idea of fitting a […]

Warm Air removed and replaced with radiators

Our client had a three storey town house in Beckenham, Kent.  Built in the 1970s, it had been fitted with a Johnson & Starley warm air system from new. Now theres’s nothing wrong with warm air heating, and we fit the latest US Lennox condensing units for the more discerning customers.  But in common with many properties of this era, economies had been made with the ductwork, resulting in no direct heating of the third bedroom or bathroom. Our customer had recently bought the property, and faced the choice of many similar households wondering whether to replace the warm air […]

Low flow rate solved for Vaillant 937 installation

Our customer, in Woldingham, Surrey, had recently purchased a property with a conventional tank fed water system. They wished to remove a couple of shower pumps and the water tanks and install a direct fed pressurized water system.  The problem was that the water flow rate into the property was around 9-10 litres per minute.  There was also a limited space to fit the entire boiler plant into. We had to boost the flow rate as well as provide the new boiler plant, all within a single cupboard.  We chose to fit a wall hung Vaillant ecoTEC 937, which is […]
