Oil combination boiler updates Kent Oast House
Our customer had very recently moved to a picturesque Oast House near Headcorn, Kent. Oast Houses are typically found in Kent and although no longer used for their original purpose, retain the round towers and pitched roofs so beloved by picture postcards. Our customer wanted to maximise their internal space, which is always at a premium in a round house and this meant the larder had to be vacated of a poorly maintained Firebird heat only oil boiler; and the bright yellow oil fired AGA also had to go. Sadly, oil fired AGAs are no longer desirable, being temperamental, old, […]
Johnson & Starley warm air replaced by Worcester Bosch boiler and EasyControl
This case study begins in a terraced house in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. A kitchen renewal has a short while ago necessitated the warm air heater being relocated into the garage. Our customer had some concerns over the way this part of the work had been carried out, and it turned out they were right to be worried. Generally speaking, moving a warm air unit is not easy… there’s ductwork deep under the floors, which are usually concrete, and most older warm air units have a vertical ‘open’ flue, akin to a fireplace. So moving the box itself isn’t difficult, it […]
New model ATAG combi, runaway installer and Evohome zoning using OpenTherm
We’ve been installing commercial sized ATAG boilers for some time, in fact, you will find some others on this blog. ATAG have recently relaunched their domestic offering in the UK, and now offer 10 year warranties and 24hr technician support. ATAG are a premium brand boiler manufacturer from the Netherlands, although a stake is now owned by Ariston MTS Group. Our customer had selected an ATAG IC Economiser 39, which is a combi boiler augmented with ‘designed at birth’ flue gas heat recovery (rather than tacked on afterwards like most other manufacturers), and reputed to be the most efficient boiler […]
LPG boiler and an Evohome internet control system
We’re in a very rural part of Horsham, in Sussex, for this case study. We’re pleased to say that this is the third new boiler installation job we’ve carried out for this family in two years. Although only around 2% of our installation work features here in our case studies (because one of our boiler renewals looks much like the next, and it takes so long writing it all up), both jobs can be seen on our blog because they were unusual in different respects. We’re replacing an LPG fired (Liquid Petroleum Gas; in this case, Propane) combi boiler in […]
Truck mounted hoover and a Worcester WAVE
We are in Addlestone, Surrey today. We are replacing a boiler badged and installed by British Gas a few years ago (but we know it is a Gloworm with a bigger margin), with the latest Worcester-Bosch combinaton boiler. The new owners of the property quite fancied getting all their radiators working, as the ones in the recent kitchen extension only worked intermittently, and even then, were lukewarm. They also desired mains pressure hot and cold water, so the no doubt expensive Gloworm (or BG 330 as it is otherwise known) heat only boiler had to go. As things turned out, […]
New Worcester WAVE
Worcester Bosch launched a new boiler controller in late September 2014, and the first production versions became available late last week (October 24th). Naturally, we wanted to be one of the first installers to get our hands on one, as did two of our customers. So we managed to fit two, one in Caterham Surrey, and the other in nearby Reigate. The Caterham job was for a forward thinking customer, who ordered his boiler system a few months ago and hearing about the impending new release, said ‘I’ll have that’. We took out an old floorstanding Potterton Kingfisher II, […]
A cold chill for Fordcombe CoE Primary School
Today we’re near Tunbridge Wells, Kent, to look at Fordcombe Primary Church of England School. Our brief was to get the heating working properly in the main building. Our customer had experienced ongoing problems over the past few years with radiators not heating up properly – or at all – and were having to rely on numerous electric heaters to supplant the failing system. In the main classroom, half the radiators didn’t work. Efforts from their maintainer had amounted to little or no improvement, and involved changing the thermostat and a few other misguided remedies. The customer had obtained two […]
Dental Surgery makes some more space
Today we are at the dentists; Brenchley Dental, which is (unsurprisingly) in Brenchley, near Royal Tunbridge Wells. This is a very busy practice, sited in an attractive building that was once, many years ago, a rural telephone exchange. The dentists have three surgeries here, but want to add a fourth. In order to accommodate this expansion, an office needed to be moved and there was an old Trianco boiler in the way, together with an elderly hot water cylinder in a wall cupboard. Receptionists were feeling the heat from these items in the summer, too. Originally, Brenchley Dental were intending […]
End of terrace in Sevenoaks with water flow issues
We were called to an interesting refurbishment in Ide Hill, near Sevenoaks, Kent. The house was in a very rural location at the end of a terrace of four victorian cottages. We couldn’t take any decent photos of the house at the time of the job because it was covered in scaffolding! The property was being updated and renovated; as space was tight the customer wanted to remove water tanks and the hot water cylinder from the house and at the same time replace the old oil boiler in a shed on the other side of the entrance pathway. […]
New 2013 Worcester-Bosch 25Si Compact
The new Worcester 25Si Compact combination boiler came out in July 2013, and we were one of the first to get one on the wall. In fact, we were more successful getting hold of a boiler than the sales brochure! This new Si Compact model replaces the Worcester 25Si combination boiler, which had been in production for around 7 years, and uses most of the same parts as the CDi Compact boiler, launched earlier in 2013. Like the CDi compact, it has a huge potential market because it is capable (just) of being installed within a standard kitchen wall cupboard. […]
