This week we’re in Tonbridge, Kent.

Our customer has a semi detached house, recently bought, and he has inherited a hideous back boiler and gas fire front.IMG_27281

The troops arrive.

We looked at fitting various options such as a combination boiler, but in the end he decided to upgrade the hot cylinder, fit some heating in the kitchen (where there was none before) and a modern system boiler in the airing cupboard.

This job was our first installation of the latest Worcester i Series, launched in July 2015.  This boiler features all sorts of improvements over the previous model, and even comes in sizes down to 9Kw, ideal for modern new build well insulated dwellings, where previously the smallest size was 12Kw.IMG_2719-2

The airing cupboard prior to new boiler and cylinder.

We liked the front accessible expansion vessel, even though it has craftily been reduced in volume to 6 litres, and the truly intuitive control panel.  Vaillant could do with looking at (eg: copying) this.  Even boiler faults are described in line of text laymans descriptions – not that you should see many of them.IMG_2724-21

Inside the new 2015 Worcester i Series.IMG_2723-2Our Powerflush and Magnacleanse in operation. This is the only way to be sure to remove sludge from your system.

Unfortunately, like most Worcester products, there is a bewildering assortment of self tapping screws to lose and the mounting jig only works on a flat wall, of the type you only ever encounter in R&D laboratories.IMG_2729-2

New boiler flue in position.

Because of the low eaves on the first floor, we fitted a vertical flue system to the boiler, aided, as usual, by our skilled roofing subcontractor, Dave.  If you have a cheap job done and your heating installer has the Gripfill out trying to stop the roof tiling leaking, you might wish you had paid a bit more.  Heating Installers do not usually make expert roofers.IMG_2730-2

Finished job.

A Smiths Space Saver heater was fitted in the kitchen plinth, to make up for the fact that there was no heating in the kitchen.  It was during the fitting of the pipework for this that we found all the combustible timber framing around the old back boiler casing…..

The system was nicely rounded off with an Evohome wireless room zoning system with hot water control.  Our customer can now independently control the room temperatures in all the areas of the house.  And via his Smartphone of course.IMG_2733-2

Yet another Evohome installation.

The boiler was fitted with a Bosch system filter and because we are a Gold Tier Accredited Installer, an 8yr warranty.
