A new Worcester Danesmoor, MultiCalor Warm Air, Radiators, Water pressure boosting…..

Today we are in a rural property in the Edenbridge/Tonbridge area of Kent. Our customer has recently moved back to the UK from working abroad.  He has bought a detached house in the middle of the Kent countryside. The subject of an extensive makeover in the last 20 years, this property had a Lennox oil fired warm air unit in the cellar, a Worcester standard efficiency boiler in the external cupboard, and a conventional hot water system. The warm air system was around 20 years old, and covered the two reception rooms , kitchen and hall areas. It was very […]

Norwegian Chalet, imported by the Marquess of Tankerville

We work on some interesting houses in our job, and this was one of them.  Hidden away in a rural location near Tunbridge Wells, in around 1906 this house was erected in the grounds of Greystoke House, home of the Earl of Tankerville. The house had first caught the attention of the Marquess of Tankerville whilst on holiday in Norway, so, naturally, it was disassembled and brought over to Great Britain.  She planned to use it to board visiting guests at Greystoke. The Marquess died in 1922, having handed over the property to the China Inland Missionary Commission in 1918.  It […]

Golf Club gets new boiler plant for showers

We are in Oxted, Surrey, UK at the picturesque Tandridge Golf Club. Having put in a new Worcester Bosch boiler system and Evohome at the home of one of the management team, they were sufficiently impressed to ask were we could have a look at a much larger commercial installation in the male and female showering block. We found that other contractors had previously been approached but some felt it was too big for them, others did not really grasp what the management team were looking for. The problem was that on match days, large numbers of golfers would descend […]

William Pitt the Younger’s house

The focus of our case study is a listed building in Westerham, Kent, which was once the residence of William Pitt the younger. Westerham is a small town steeped in history, and features Chartwell, home of Winston Churchill, Downe House, home to Charles Darwin, and Squerryes Court.  Chevening, the deputy prime minister’s estate, is just down the road. Featuring timbers that are believed to date back to the 13th century, in more recent times William Pitts’ former house has been an upmarket restaurant, and an Indian fine dining eaterie. The present owners purchased the property in a state of dilapidation, […]

Anne of Cleves’ house gets an upgrade

Readers of this blog will know that we regularly get commissions from owners of listed properties for their heating upgrades. Today, we are in a Grade 1 listed country house in Ditchling, Sussex, UK, dating back to the 16th century, or possibly earlier. Henry VIII was believed to have bought this house for Anne of Cleves;  later residents included William Pitt*. *William Pitt will also appear as a case study for our professional services shortly! In more recent times the house was owned by a radio and TV personality;  our customer has recently moved in and we were engaged to provide […]

Commercial boiler Design and Installation at premier Surrey Golf Club

Tandridge Golf Club was designed by the renowned Harry Colt in 1924, and today is judged as one of the top 100 golf courses in the UK. Situated in a rural location near Oxted, in Surrey (UK), it has a thriving membership and is a beautiful course; the main club buildings date from 1928 and have been carefully retained to the present day (unfortunately the first clubhouse burnt down in 1927, exacerbated by the thatched roof). It is popular every day, with golfers seemingly happy to battle in all weathers at all times of the year, perhaps encouraged by the excellent dining […]

Complex house heating system of the future (in 1998) gets updated

For this case study, we are in Ealing, West London. Our customer rang us to say he had inadvertently bought a large house with a woefully complex heating system around 8 years ago.  The first time he viewed the house, it was perfect – but they never went into the garage.  On the second visit, he popped his head into the garage area, and found it completely full of commercial plant, and a ambient temperature of over 30C. Since then, many a central heating specialist has escaped having seen the garage;  apparently they are brimming with confidence until the door […]

Relocating all the equipment in the cellar

Our customer, near Woolwich, in South East London, has a charming Victorian house in a quiet residential street. There is a substantial cellar that has recently been lowered and made more usable.  Our brief was to find a way of moving all boiler and hot water cylinder equipment into the basement, to enable the upper floor to be remodelled, the kitchen enlarged and also a possible loft extension to take place. Ideally, the boiler would be fitted in the basement, together with a new mains pressure unvented cylinder. This presented us with a set of problems, mainly in terms of […]

End of terrace in Sevenoaks with water flow issues

We were called to an interesting refurbishment in Ide Hill, near Sevenoaks, Kent.   The house was in a very rural location at the end of a terrace of four victorian cottages. We couldn’t take any decent photos of the house at the time of the job because it was covered in scaffolding! The property was being updated and renovated;  as space was tight the customer wanted to remove water tanks and the hot water cylinder from the house and at the same time replace the old oil boiler in a shed on the other side of the entrance pathway. […]

Hot Water & Central Heating and The Raw Chef

This week, we’ve been working in Brixton, in South London, in a converted factory building close to a windmill. I’ve been to Brixton countless times, and although I appreciate it is a trendy area, I never realised they had a full sized windmill.  If you want to know more about the Brixton Windmill (or don’t believe there is a Windmill in Brixton) see here. The factory was converted in around 2003, and each unit was designed differently inside. With 4m high ceilings, enormous glass brick windows and concrete screeded floors, this is an amazing, unique property conversion. It is home […]

Excellent work , the workers were very efficient, considerate and tidy. They worked with the least disruption possible for an elderly lady. Any unexpected problem was dealt with safely and professionally. The finished heating is to a high standard. K.T. Kent

The job was very professionally undertaken on time and budget with no adverse issues raised. Customer satisfaction appeared to be a high priority.

Martin, Kent 25/04/2017

Excellent

Truly excellent, as much technically as aesthetic: clean, prompt, going well beyond expectations.

Nicholas, Kent 14/04/2017

Commercial plumbing

A small to medium sized company capable of installing & maintaining a highly technical modernisation of our heating & h/w systems. The planning, execution & result was truly ‘excellent’.

A J, Surrey 04/04/2017

Very knowledgeable

We needed a replacement boiler & Simon talked us through the options, which manufacturer & what size to go for & saw through the installation, not leaving until he was satisfied that all was in order. All in all very, competent and professional.

Stephen, Kent 16/02/2017

Highly recommended

Not the cheapest but very knowledgeable which gave me confidence that the job would be well done and correctly done. I was not disappointed.

Geoffrey, Kent 06/02/2017

Good standard of work with an ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction

This firm installed a 12 zone Honeywell Evohome central heating and hot water control system for us in October 2014. The quotation was clear and detailed, and the price reasonable. The installation work was personally overseen by the boss, Simon, who also set the rather complex (but powerful) wireless control system to work and gave clear advice on how to get the best from it. He had in-depth knowledge and experience of the control system that is probably second to none. The firm also installed and connected to our boiler a plinth fan heater nicely hidden under a kitchen cupboard Read more…

Employed this trader many times

Started and finished on time. Workmanship as good as ever. prices reasonable.

Peter, Surrey 24/05/2016

Smart solution, neatly implemented

Great technical solution to the tricky replacement of a 1980’s warm air unit. Starting with a clear and comprehensive quotation. Careful and tidy installation with minimal disruption. Excellent communication throughout the work.

Martin, Surrey 21/03/2016

Clean + tidy

HWCH installed our boiler a few years ago and have looked after it ever since so I was happy to leave them in the house unaccompanied. We came home to find the installation complete and no mess or trace they had been.

Bryan, London 15/12/2015

Prompt and efficient. Very professional.

My son recommended this firm as I was very apprehensive about having a new boiler. Mr Davies was very clean and helpful and explained everything. The two men who did must of the work were efficient, polite , clean and considerate to me . As far as I can tell I have an efficient job carried out in one long day which helped me.

Jean, Surrey 19/11/2015

Very good job – as always

We have used the company for many years for 2 rental properties & our family home. We cannot fault them.

Stephen, Kent 19/06/2015

HW and CH knowledgeable, friendly and efficient company we would certainly recommend them.

John, Kent 01/06/2015

Reliable & professional company

Hot Water & Central Heating responded very promptly & installed a new boiler in a quite awkward location. Very helpful

Jerry, London 27/05/2015

Professional & efficient

I have known HW & CH for several years. They installed two large boilers in a church and hall and maintain them annually. I gave recently used them at my home where they did a very clean, neat and efficient job. Supplied excellent product and were very professional.

David, Kent 16/01/2015

Diligent & Efficient

Simon of HWCH takes his job very seriously but is a pleasure to deal with. He assessed our (complicated) situation carefully, recommended the right solution and carried it out promptly and efficiently.

Jay, London 15/01/2015

Expert & professional installation

An intimate knowledge of a rather complex Honeywell Evohome heating control product, combined with an excellent installation crew on the day resulted in a very satisfactory installation. Some tricky rerouting of underfloor pipework was accomplished without fuss, mess or extra charge, highly recommended.

Richard, East Sussex 04/07/2014

Very impressed

Very impressed with work rate and efficiency. Would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Neville, West Sussex 16/03/2014
