Hello and welcome to our latest post. This job, undertaken during the Olympics, was on a listed property in Four Elms, Kent.
It is an oil boiler (we seem to be doing lots of these at the moment), a Perrymatics Jetstreme MkII, and the owners of the property fancied updating it with a new high efficiency model, and relocating it outside the property.
As usual, we were pleased to oblige! The Jetstreme was removed from the rear office area creating significantly more room, and also making the house quieter. The old boiler was an ‘open flue’ type so there was an external air brick for the air supply to the boiler, this can now be blocked up.
We fitted a new Worcester-Bosch 18.25 Greenstar Camray External boiler directly outside the office. As the house is near to a watercourse, we built a concrete plinth, lifting the boiler some 5″ off ground level, to protect it against possible flooding issues. This was topped with matching slabs for a better, more durable finish.
The Worcester Bosch Camray external was fitted with a simple balanced flue, which discharges to the rear of the property, where it is tucked away from sight. The oil line was upgraded with new isolation valves, filter and remote acting fire valve.
We used 28mm copper pipework to link to the existing heating system, to minimise frictional losses, and most of this was able to be hidden in a cupboard and a loft area.
All new Honeywell controls were fitted, including a CM907 programmable thermostat for the heating. A Grundfos Alpha2 variable speed A rated circulation pump was specified by our customer, this will lead to significantly lower electricity bills. This type of varispeed pump will become more popular in 2015 when building regulations are expected to require more efficient controls.
The new, whisper quiet completed system was handed over to our customer, complete with a 7 year parts and labour Worcester-Bosch boiler guarantee.
