Baby Viessmann in Smallfield
Our customer had a modest semi detached property in Smallfield, (near Crawley). The old floorstanding boiler was removed from the hearth in the kitchen, and a Viessmann 100W Compact heat-only condensing boiler was located some distance away in the garage. A vertical flue was fitted in the garage roof by our professional roofing contractor. The Viessmann was supplied and fitted by HWCH with our normal 5 year parts and labour warranty.
Warm air installation in Bookham
Our customer had an old warm air unit using an open flue system. Warm air is amongst the most efficient methods of heating a space, and most homeowners with a warm air system would not have anything else, especially radiators! Warm air was very popular from the 1950s to the late 1980s in the UK, with over a million installed at one point. However, they have gone out of fashion now and new units are only installed as replacements, which brings us to our customer in Bookham, near Leatherhead, Surrey. The old unit used to use a conventional flue, that […]
New Worcester Bosch oil combination boiler
This customer had a very old Worcester combi in their petite kitchen, in a rural location near Merstham, Surrey. The old boiler had been installed with the flue too close to a window, and in addition some leakage had resulted in damage to the floor. We suggested relocating the new replacement outside, so more space could be liberated in the house. Also it meant that the boiler flue ‘plume’ would not be immediately under the kitchen view of the garden. A new Worcester Bosch Greenstar oil combination boiler was fitted on a concrete plinth under an old carport, to the […]
Vaillant boiler and back to school radiators
This house, in Oxted, Surrey, was in need of a new boiler. The old unit, a Potterton Kingfisher, was located in the rear of the main kitchen, and was going to be in the way of a planned refurbishment. There were very few places to fit the boiler, so we eventually settled on a restricted location near the back doorway. A Vaillant ecoTEC plus 630 High Efficiency unit was selected, as the build quality of these units is very good, and they are particulary quiet, featuring an insulated casing. The pipework had to run a long way through store cupboards etc and […]
Vaillant boiler kills bills in East Croydon
Our customer had a large detached house in East Croydon, Surrey. Their existing boiler (an old Ideal Mexico open flued unit) was located in a cupboard in one of the reception rooms, taking up lots of room and making the roof uncomfortably warm in the summer. As far as our customer was concerned, there was only one place for his new boiler, and that was the roof space. We constructed a vertical platform for the boiler and control equipment, and as per company policy we used the services of our roofing subcontractor to pass the Vaillant flue through the roof […]
3 bathrooms from a Combination boiler in Oxted, Surrey!
Our client had a delightful detached house in a secluded road in Oxted, Surrey. The house had been extended into the loft, and had ended up with three luxury bathrooms. Unfortunately, the hot water storage cylinder was jammed under the stairs and was too small. And there were three separate shower pumps (each installed by plumbers with every new bathroom). The shower pumps were noisy, one was a negative head type (so it suffered from running for short periods in the middle of the night), the hot water cylinder could not be sited anywhere else, and the water tanks took […]
Vaillant unvented cylinder in wandsworth
Our customer had a newly refurbished Victorian terraced house in a rather upmarket area of Wandsworth, SE London. Their newly configured bathrooms were let down by the shower pumps. Noisy, vibrationary and liable to intermittently start in the middle of the night. Because the property had been extended into the loft, one of the shower pumps was a ‘negative pressure’ type. These have to push water out of the tanks uphill, because in most loft extensions there is insufficient space or load bearing ability to site water tanks above shower rose level. The negative head pump incorporates a set of […]
Flying Kidd boiler; Leatherhead, Surrey
Our client, owner of a large private house near Leatherhead, had already used HWCH to replace a troublesome Keston LPG fired boiler in the swimming pool complex with a new Viessmann Vitodens 200 light commercial boiler. The main property was oil fired and used an old Trianco kerosene boiler in the cellar. This unit was an 8yr old inefficient boiler and was oversized for the property, being rated at 120Kw. We proposed replacing this with a Kidd Very High Efficiency Model 260; this has an output of around 260,000Btu (around 76Kw). Old Trianco boiler (you can’t buy cheaper) being […]
Accumulators replace break tanks in Headley, Surrey
Our client in Headley, Surrey had two large open tanks in their basement boiler room, equipped with two Stuart Turner whole house pumps. Twin pumped hot and cold water via break tank Like many houses in the UK, they had found that their pressurised hot and cold water system (using a pair of existing Megaflo cylinders) could not deliver two bathrooms worth of usable water at the same time. So they installed the break tank system, which trickle fills an open tank from the mains, and when a tap is opened, one of the two pumps starts. This is the old fashioned […]
Grant Vortex boiler, Two DualStream units and Hometronic
Our client, a farm near Tadworth, Surrey, had an older boiler running two gravity hot water cylinders. The spacious house had a fully equipped annexe with its own hot water provision. We specifified two DualStream accumulator fed systems, which would replace the old noisy shower pumps and provide a silent, fast flow fresh water service to all outlets. In the main house we relocated the hot and cold water services into an attic room, to liberate more room downstairs for a bedroom enlargement. The other DualStream was sited in the annexe. The whole system was powered by a new Grant […]
