2006 HWCH installation upgraded to Hometronic
Our customer, in Outwood, Surrey, owns a large house that has recently been comprehensively extended. In 2006 HWCH fitted a DualStream accumulator boosted unvented hot and cold water system, to make all the baths and showers deliver a hotel-type performance. At the same time we fitted the latest Grant Vortex 46Kw oil fired condensing boiler plant in the cellar. In 2008, following the building extension works, we were invited back to upgrade the installation with our Hometronic domestic heating controls. This innovative product allows our customer to divide his property into 16 separate zones of heating, each individually monitored and […]
Kidd Boiler in renovation of large house in Tandridge, Surrey
The Kidd boiler was very popular in the early years (1982 onwards) with people in the music industry, many of whom were pioneers of environmental awareness. Abba, Peter Gabriel and the Alan Parsons Project are some notable customers of Kidd Boilers over the years. Inside a Kidd Model 260 – stripped down, preparing for lifting In a recently completed installation in Oxted, Surrey, we had to lower a Kidd Model 260 into an internal boiler room of a large private house. There was no space for a conventional crane, and to install a lifting hoist would have required some quite […]
New boiler in Tunbridge Wells flat
Our customer had just bought a flat in Tunbridge Wells. The old Ferroli combination boiler was past it’s best and had been built into a rather ugly wooden housing about 2 feet from the corner of the kitchen, conveniently preventing a line of shiney new kitchen units from being installed. The siting of the old boiler had been necessary because it used the old ‘balanced flue’ type termination, which involves an outside termination to British Standards, avoiding two windows. At it happens, the boiler flue termination was too close to the kitchen window anyway. New boiler being installed We fitted a […]
Kidd VHE boiler in beautiful house near Outwood, Surrey
Another Grade II listed job for HWCH; our client had an old Worcester Bosch oil boiler in an external cupboard. This had unfortunately been unreliable in recent years. Our client wanted a reliable, energy efficient solution, with low emissions and a long service life. A Kidd Model 2 was specified, together with the Kidd seam welded aluminium flue, to pass up inside the existing chimney. The house was covered in hand made clay tiles and we wanted to cause minimal disruption, so we used a truck mounted crane to access the chimney, remove the old liner and insert the Kidd […]
A few words about SOLAR
Solar energy is very popular with politicians. A green argument is usually easily won and persuasive; after all, when did you last hear a politician denounce green policies? When did you last watch an episode of ‘Grand Designs’ when the words ‘ecologically friendly’ and ‘sustainable’ were not used? Trouble is, this solar energy lark is not all it’s cracked up to be. If you live in a typical UK house, your hot water energy bill is unlikely to account for more than 15%-20% of your gas (or oil) costs. Therefore, although solar generated hot water works, and it can heat […]
Vaillant combination boiler in loft with weather compensation
Our client owns a bungalow down a private road in Smallfield, Surrey. HWCH were asked to suggest a new gas central heating system design, to replace the existing electrical heating system. A Vaillant ecoTEC 837 fast flow combination boiler was sited in the loft; as no suitable locations existed, we constructed a frame with a fire resistant lining to support the boiler and accessories. Vaillant 837 Combination boiler mounted in the loft (work in progress) The boiler flue was passed through the pitched roof, all external works as usual were entrusted to our specialist roofing contractor. The job included 10 […]
A mixture of old and new
Our customer was a couple in South Godstone. Their house was an unusual stables conversion, comprising three buildings arranged around a courtyard, in a ‘U’ shape. Keeping the house warm was a struggle in the past, and the room used as the lounge, with superb views over rolling farmland, was the coldest room in the house. It had three external walls, some skylights, and was probably the furthest from the boiler. We recommended a new Vaillant ecoTEC plus 6 series boiler, which would work alongside their existing hot water cylinder and tanks. The heating problem was addressed by Honeywell Hometronic. […]
